(1) Joseph Smith (1st President), born to Joseph Smith Sr. & Lucy Mack Smith in Sharon, Windsor Co., VT on 23 Dec 1805. LDS Map of NY, PA, and OH areas of the U.S.

• The Church Beginngs... Palmyra-Manchester (1820-1831).
  • LDS Map of Northeastern US.
  • LDS Map of Palmyra-Manchester area.
• The Church was organized in Fayette Township, NY on 6 APR 1830.
• The 1st Branch of the Church organized at Jos. Knight Sr home in Colesville TWP in 1830.

(2) One of the earliest gathering places of LDS members was Kirtland, Lake Co., OH. LDS Map of Kirtland, OH

• The Saints were commanded to gather to Ohio (Dec 1830-Jan 1831).
• The Kirtland Temple (1st Temple) dedicated on 27 MAR 1836. Kirtland was Headquarters of the Church (1830-1838).

(3) By 1839 many LDS members began to gather in the area around Nauvoo, Hancock Co., IL. LDS Map of MO, IL, & IA areas of U.S.

• Missionaries arrived in Liverpool, England, on 1st overseas mission on 19 JUL 1837.

• 27 JUN 1844, Joseph Smith & bro. martyred in Cathage Jail.

(5) In 1846 most Church members crossed Iowa to set up Winter Quarters near what would become Omaha, NE and Council Bluffs, Pottawattamie Co. IA.

• 16 JUL 1846, Mormon Battalion mustered into US service in IA (Mexican War). -- Camp of Israel, record of the organization of the Camp of Israel which took place at Shariton Ford, Iowa Terr. on March 27 and March 31, 1846. (Includes return lists of Co.A and Co.B of the Mormon Battalion to Council Bluffs, 16 Jul 1846.

• On APR 1847, Brigham Young's pioneer company left Winter Quarters on the journey west...
• On 24 JUL 1847, President Brigham Young's company entered the Salt Lake Valley.
