CIVIL REGISTRATION:

  • Marriages, 1845 to 1870, for ALL Ireland...  (note: All the marriages from 1845 through 1863 in the civil registration are ONLY for Protestant marriages. Catholic marriages were not recorded in civil registration until 1864.) -- so if searching for your Catholic families, start with 1864 to 1870/5.
• Births, marriages and deaths are registered at the offices of the district councils. Birth and death registers are retained in the districts for just two years before being sent to the General Register Office (GRO). The District Registrars’ Offices keep sets of marriage registers only. They are the only source of pre-1922 marriage certificates. The District Registrars’ Offices FOR CO.
