  • "Catholics were restricted from owning property, voting and other civil rights during the 1700's. Some of them renounced their religion, converting to the Church of Ireland in order to enjoy such rights. Besides taking the sacrament in the Church of Ireland, they were required to file a certificate in a court of law. These Convert ceritficates were kept in the Chancery Court Rolls Office until 1867, at which time they were transferred to the Public Records Office. The actual rolls were destroyed by the fire in 1922, but they had been calendared and recorded."

  • "The Edith A. Somerville Archive forms part of the papers of the Somerville family. It comprises more than three thousand eight hundred items (letters, account books, diary entries, illustrations, photographs, press cuttings etc.) ..." --p. 7. The section entitled "an evaluative essay" contains much biographical material about the Somerville family and a Somerville-Coghill pedigree from 1760. The archive is located in Castletownsend in the civil parish of Castlehaven, County Cork. Drishane was the name of the estate.

  • Inc. surname & locatity indexes. Contains abstracts of wills from ALL Ireland Cos.: v.1 1708-1745 reprint, v.2 1746-1785 reprint, and v.3 1785-1832. "The Registry of Deeds began recording wills of persons who died after March 25, 1708, in which real estate was assigned to heirs. These wills were recorded in three ways: in full, in the testator's own words; "Narrate," or third person; and "Précis," or brief statement showing to whom the testator assigned his real estate. These have become invaluable after the destruction in 1922 of the original wills deposited at the Dublin Public Record Office."
