CANADA -- (Established 23 July 1840 when the Act of Union allowed Upper and Lower Canada to act under one government; This Province grew into the country of Canada which of course currently exists).

ONTARIO -- (The Province of Ontario was created at the time of confederation, 1 July 1867. Indian settlement began in prehistoric times. Inhabitants by 100 AD were the Algonquin tribes of Ojibwa, Cree and Algonquin, and the Iroquoian tribes of Iroquois, Huron, Petun, Neutral, Erie and Susquehannock. The first European settlement was St. Marie Among The Huron's in 1639. In order to promote European settlement the British Government offered "Crown Land" which was available for 6 pence per acre plus survey costs and an oath of allegiance.)

RUPERT'S LAND -- (Rupert's Land was a large portion of North America named after Prince Rupert that was granted to the Hudsons' Bay Company by Charles II of England on 2 May 1670. The area covered present day Northern Quebec, Ontario north of the Laurentian watershed, All of Manitoba, most of Saskatchewan, Southern Alberta, and part of the North-West Territories. In 1870 Rupert's Land and the North-West-Territories were purchased by the federal government from the Hudson's Bay Co, and were officially transferred to Canada, part of which became Ontario.).

BRITISH NORTH AMERICA -- (In 1867 the three provinces of British North America (Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick) were united in Confederation, the former province of Canada was divided into Ontario and Quebec.).
